Malvern’s New Pub - The Gardiner Hotel

Malvern’s new pub – The Gardiner Hotel has opened as the popular suburbs newest watering hole.

“We are so excited to finally swing the doors open to this beautiful pub! We’ve made sure there’s something for everyone because we want our entire community to love it as much as we do and gather at The Gardiner for many years to come,” said Venue Manager Scott Matthews.

Located within the old National Bank building at the corner of Glenferrie and Wattletree Roads, which has been a local landmark since its establishment in 1915, the pub’s build has focused on complementing its neighbourhood and surrounds. The pub’s name is a nod to the suburb’s rich history and notably John Gardiner, after whom both Gardiner’s Creek and the former Gardiners Creek Road (now Toorak Road) were named.

Merging the diverse functionality and appeal of a traditional pub with modernised furnishing and interiors, The Gardiner features a ground level public bar and dining space, a dedicated private function room with hues of warm timbers, feature lighting and lush seating and a rooftop terrace.

Enticing guests to grab a cosy corner for casual drinks and a bite to eat, the front bar shows sports on screens and serves up tasty share plates and hearty pub classics.

The sun-drenched rooftop terrace is perfect for year-round relaxed drinking; a place to unwind with friends or to snug-up with ample heating, complete with retractable roof throughout the cooler months.

In the kitchen Head Chef Michael Flemming (ex Arkhe SA, and Press Food & Wine SA) is serving up a seasonal menu with plenty of shareable plates perfect for grazing. Highlights include Smoked Beetroot Tartare (with sour cream, chives and beetroot crisps), Stracciatella (with green tomatoes, tarragon and chive), and Cauliflower Cheese Croquettes (with sweet and sour pickled cauliflower). When you’re ready to tuck into a main, don’t miss the 14-Day Dry Aged Duck Breast (with pepper sauce, bearnaise & rustic fries).

Those looking for a pub classic will not be disappointed with elevated versions of:

  • Chicken Schnitty (with chicken jus, caper salsa, parm and rustic fries)
  • Fish & Chips (with beer battered barramundi, yoghurt tartare, curry sauce and rustic fries)
  • Lamb Ribs (with local honey & coffee glaze, koji and mayo)
  • Chocolate Delice Brownie (with sourdough ice cream and miso caramel)

The kids can enjoy the dedicated kids menu on offer, (chicken & chips, pasta & more) plus a sweet treat (Ice Cream Sundae with chocolate sauce & sprinkles).

Weekly Specials include a rotating Sunday Roast with all the trimmings for $35 from midday until sold out.

The Community Raffle each Thursday is sure to be popular! The weekly raffle will be in collaboration with everyone’s favourite local butcher Peter Bouchier and guests can enter to win a premium meat tray, a $100 voucher or jug of beer. Tickets will be $5 each or $20 for 5, with all proceeds going to the Cabrini Hospital Foundation.

The Gardiner Hotel, Malvern’s newest local, is open every day for lunch, dinner and all things in between.
