Tom’s Tavern’s New Beer Garden – There’s a new beer garden at Tom’s Tavern, giving Townsville locals a year-round outdoor venue to enjoy. The Aitkenvale pub reopens the space with a brand-new children’s playground, multiple large screens for sport, and an extended all-weather roof, positioning it as the suburb’s new go-to hangout for everything from weekday meals to game day.

At the heart of the new-look beer-garden are two stand-out additions: the brand-new kids’ playground and the big screens. Sports fans now have the ultimate viewing set-up, with multiple large screens including a 3.5m-wide screen perfect for watching the game live, all within easy reach of the venue’s outdoor bar.
Right alongside it, the brand-new playground gives families a space of their own, with modern equipment, creating an area for kids to play while parents unwind with a drink.
With the new space ready just in time, Tom’s Tavern is celebrating with a full Father’s Day lineup; a Breakfast Buffet from 7am to 10am, a Sunday Roast from 11am, and free kids’ entertainment from 11:30am to keep the whole family entertained.
The venue’s roof has been extended to cover the full beer garden, including the kids’ play area, previously only shaded by a sail. That means the whole space, screens, playground and all, can now be enjoyed rain or shine, year-round.
The space has also been reimagined with charcoal framing, warm timber and brick elements set against citrus tones, with seating designed to suit every occasion, from picnic tables and banquette seating to large communal tables, high tables and casual bar seating. A striking mural rounds out the look, bringing the local landscape to life with native wildlife, including a crocodile and curlew alongside local flora.
“The Tom’s Tavern team are really excited to bring this space to life,” said venue manager Matthew Martini. “The kids’ playground and the big screens are the real game-changers here. Now the little ones have somewhere to burn off energy, and sports fans get the ultimate spot to watch the game. And with the roof now covering the whole space, none of it gets rained out.”
The menu offering leans into generous, familiar pub classics alongside new favourites, with dedicated kids’ and seniors’ menus. Highlights include four parmy variations:
- Butter Chicken Parmy with butter chicken sauce, mozzarella and papadum
- Loaded Smokehouse Parmy with BBQ pulled pork, BBQ sauce, smoked cheddar, mozzarella, garden salad and chips
- Fiery Parmy with sugo, pepperoni, roasted pepper, pickled jalapeno, spanish onion, mozzarella, sriracha, chilli flakes, garden salad and chips
- Chicken Parmy with sugo, ham, mozzarella, garden salad and chips
Plus, other must try dishes of Fried Fish Tacos, Tom’s Deluxe Burger, Rendang Lamb Shank, Beef & Guinness Pie, and a Skillet Cookie for dessert.
