The Distiller in Northcote has opened to set out to not only give Melburnians a great bar to enjoy drinks with friends, family and colleagues, but also provide a space to learn new skills and be educated on some of Australia’s favourite spirits. With this is mind, a series of masterclasses has been announced.
The current release of masterclasses are for this month and the Cocktail Masterclass also has sessions running through January. More classes will be added soon.
The Distiller Masterclasses:
Cocktail Masterclass, $65
Dates available until end January
Perfect for all cocktail aficionados! Guests will join one of The Distiller’s experienced bartenders in shaking three of their very own Grainshaker vodka cocktails. Each cocktail made will highlight one of the handmade Australian vodkas, being easily adaptable for participants to replicate at home. They will learn to make their own Springtime Spritz, Grainshaken and Espresso Martini. There will be time between each cocktail to enjoy the venue while sipping on the latest creation.
NED Whisky Masterclass, $55
Friday 17th December
Discover the story behind NED Whisky and the processes taken, from fermentation and distillation to maturation. Guests will learn what makes the Whisky unique to others, begin the session with a NED Highball on arrival followed by a guided tasting of the classic NED Whisky, Wanted Series and NED New make spirit.
Martini Masterclass, $60
Thursday 9th and 16th December
Martini connoisseurs, or simply those who love to drink them are sorted with this masterclass. Participants will be led by one of The Distiller’s experienced bartenders to shake, stir and strain three delicious martinis – each hero-ing one of the three different Grainshaker vodkas. Classic, Dry, Dirty, Gibson? Guests will learn the difference between each styled martini as well as how garnishes, techniques and ratios impact the final drop.
Gift cards are also available to purchase which make an ideal present.
In 2022, a program of tasting sessions will also be launched to add to the bar’s offering.
The Distiller is a large contemporary space that juxtaposes grey concrete with the warmth of mahogany wood and tan leather. The shining copper pot still that sits proudly to the left of the main entrance is a working still that will be a part of some of the tastings and classes and to create unique small batch vodkas. Owned by the team behind Grainshaker Vodka and NED Whisky there’s better place to enjoy the Aussie spirits alongside classic and new cocktails, beers and wines.
Locals and visitors to the area alike will appreciate the quality drinks available, making The Distiller ideal for after work sips, weekend get-togethers, mid-week nights out, Sunday sessions, celebrations and functions.
For those looking for a bite to eat, they can simply order from the precinct’s roster of food trucks – including Mr Burger, Sparrows Philly Cheese Steaks and Woking Amazing – using the QR codes on the table.
With a regular live music program to entertain, The Distillery is set to become a live music destination in the North, one that is sure to keep guests in good spirits. DJ Edd Fisher will be curating the venue’s Saturday night music schedule.
And, of course, guests can take a piece of The Distillery home with a wide selection of signature NED and Grainshaker products available to purchase in the venue.
The Distiller is open 5pm until late Wednesday to Friday and 12 noon until late on the weekends.
