Hotel Allen, the Townsville institution that has anchored North Ward since 1959, will reopen its accommodation on 4 May 2026 following a 20-month renovation, available to book now. The beloved pub, undergoing its own transformation, will follow in winter 2026.
The restoration has delivered 53 fully refreshed rooms, including seven mixed-configuration suites sleeping between four and eight guests, making Hotel Allen one of Townsville’s most significant accommodation options. All rooms feature private ensuites, while furnishings were hand-selected to balance practicality with warm comfort, delivering a relaxed, hotel-style stay that still reads as a local landmark.
The timing couldn’t be better. With the Repco Supercars Championship, a packed NRL Cowboys home schedule and Rugby World Cup visitors all converging on Townsville in 2026, the city is set for one of its biggest years on record. Hotel Allen re-enters the market as a centrally located, characterful alternative to chain accommodation — a 10-minute walk from Country Bank Stadium, 22 minutes on foot from the Magnetic Island Ferry Terminal, and just 2km from the Entertainment and Convention Centre.
The guiding brief was restoration, not renovation. The venue’s late 1950s mid-century motel-style façade has been preserved and refreshed, its open-air balcony walkways and modular rooms retained as the backbone of the design. Inside, warm neutrals, coastal colour cues and natural textures tie the rooms back to their tropical setting.
Venue Manager Dale Novelli has been at Hotel Allen for many years and cannot wait to welcome guests. “Hotel Allen has always been a bit of a landmark in Townsville, so it’s really exciting to see it come back to life.
